About the Coach Walter

Walter has been playing the game of basketball for nearly
his whole life. He fell in love with the game growing up in
New York City watching the Champion NY Knicks of the
early 70's. Walter moved to Los Angeles with his mom in
1976. He then played in his 1st league and started to really
learn the game from a variety of coaches. Always being
the shortest player he learned the point guard position,
which is the player that takes charge and leads his team
on the court as an extension of the coach. Walter also
learned how to play all positions including the big man, so
he can teach all positions and believes that all positions
need to be taught. Walter began coaching at the age of 14.
While playing in his own division, Walter was asked if he
would coach a team in the 6 and 7 year old division.
Walter's team finished in 3rd place out of 6 teams. The
coaching bug was now in him, but his own high school
career was about to start and thus, he concentrated on his
game. After playing Freshman Basketball Walter got
involved with the wrong crowd and when he was not
playing basketball he was acting out as a hurt teenager.
He was sent to a boarding school in Florida for his 10th
grade year and while there he played on the school
basketball team as the starting point guard for the varsity.
After a great year he went back to LA and did not make the
JV as a junior because of his previous problems at the
school and the coach would not give him a chance. So
Walter worked his butt off and earned a spot on the varsity
as a senior. Walter then broke his ankle one week after
making the team, and thus turned his last chance to play
ball in high school into a cast on his foot. Walter still was
at every practice and learned and learned. He started
coaching again at the age of 22 where he volunteered at
the Beverly Hills Y, which is where he played as a child. He
coached there for about 5 years and then got away from
coaching till he moved back to NYC in 1995 and started
running the JR. Knicks League at the Vanderbilt Y. He ran the program as the sports specialist. Walter also started to
work for Universal Intervention Corp., doing Teen
interventions for troubled teens. Walter worked doing teen
interventions for 6 years. Walter moved back to LA in 2005
and has been doing private coaching for 10 years now and
currently is coaching over 20 children in private and group
classes. Walter loves to teach basketball and it shows
when you watch him coach. Walter can also teach basic
football, soccer, baseball and does pool training also.
Classes currently available in basketball and flag football.
Walter also teaches Acting to kids, as he has studied for
14 years and Weight loss training for Adults and Children.
